8800GTX in DX10 Games

Thread Starter
I have wondered about this, with forthcoming games like Crysis would even the mighty 8800GTX be up to doing MAX everything in DX10 rendering?

I know it's designed for DX10 purely in mind, but i wonder if these 1st gen Dx10 cards will be enough for some of the titles upcoming?

max setings at max rez 2500*1600 might push a single 8800gtx to it's limit. If you start droping the rez down to more common settings like 1600*1200 I don't think it would have much of a problem giving you playable frame rates (35fps+) on max setting on anything coming out with in the next year or two. now if you are talking about 8800gtx in sli I think even if you ran "xtream HD" res you would be fine on max setting. With 8800 in SLI you get the option of 32*AA if you include this in max setting and play at hd res I think you would see frame rates in the 10-20's but there is really no way to tell until we have it in front of us and can test it.

By the time UT2k7 and crisis come out drivers for the 8 series will have evolved also. So you will be getting quite a performance boost from that as well.

CPU's are bottlenecking the heck out of a 8800 as it stands right now so if we get a C2D out that is say 4-5ghz we can start to get rid of the bottleneck. I don't know how fast a CPU would need to be to not bottle neck an 8800sli setup though.

My 8800GTS should be fine aswell right?

I only play games at 1280x1024, so if I maxed everything out, I should be good to go right?

I'm also going to overclock my E6600 and 8800GTS as high and as stable as I can get them.

Well, I think the main point behind Dx10 is that it makes major changes to improve the efficiency of shader models so performance should actually increase. As with any new game though, they'll be trying to push the performance. The 8800 will perform well for a while I think, except at 2560x1600 as someone said.

Its gonna depend on your processor, because of the bottleneck.

Not matter what for the next year theres gonna be a bottleneck on the G80s.

Theres a big bottleneck on my G80, even with my QX6700 at 3.2ghz.

So, The G80 is more than capable of handling crysis, processors are just gonna hold it back.

My quad core and G80 have frame issues in rainbow six vegas for some reason BTW, which is 1/2 of crysis.

Might be poorly made.

Yeah, I've actually read about lots of people having FPS issues with Rainbow Six Vegas with their G80. So you are not alone.
