If steamroller FX series is delayed, it's to develop 1090FX chipset (AM4), to enable PCI-E 3.0 in the FX CPU, to change to DDR4. The fault with DDR4 isn't lack of channels, rather the memory controller's fault. Since it would take time to create a new memory controller, it could just be until excavator for FX steamroller cores, which leaves the real steamroller to only Kaveri. Or a steamroller variant could be released still in 2014 for AM3+, but it would lack PCI-e 3.0 instructions and DDR4 support, but an upgrade nonetheless. Still, count lower clock speeds, as each core will be more efficient. The enthusiasm for a Steamroller FX series would be dampened if Excavator would be more integral to overall performance, and a Steamroller FX series CPU would not work for AM4, as it would lack DDR4 support.
Probably ramping up production of jaguar cores for Xbox One and PS4, tidying up Berlin with HSA for first Steamroller with fully operating GCN 2.0 early 2014
Steamroller variety APU 512 shader units (Berlin), possibly GDDR5, Bulldozer Instruction set, PCI-e 2.0, DDR3
Excavator variety APU 768 shader units, 99% sure GDDR5 available, Steamroller cores, Excavator instruction set, PCI-E 3.0, DDR4
Well, we can hope at least.
As for competition, Intel will retain PCI-3.0 for some time, and X99 will be first to DDR4, as well as notching up performance ~33% from Ivy Bridge-E. Approx 2X performance of BD/PD
