Looking for a laptop for a friend

Title says it guys, Im trying to find a laptop for my friend because he doesn't know the first thing about buying a computer or what parts do which. That being said he likes to game, he will be doing basic stuffs like internet, music, etc but he also wants to do some gaming, he mostly plays diablo 3, and me personally would like him to be able to run Bf4 I'm not saying max graphics but maybe playable? (not required but would be epic if possible) tongue.gif

Heres the reqs:
Budget: 600
Brand: Pref not Acer or Asus, I don't know why he doesn't like Asus even though they make some of the best stuff but that's what he said axesmiley.png
Processor: I would prefer a quad core so he won't have that much problem with online gaming.
Dedicated Graphics card: I would like one so he can do some gaming, the intel HD 3000/4000 isn't that good looking at some benchmarks
Backlit keyboard: this isn't a deal breaker but something nice to have. tongue.gif

I personally suggested this to him from a few hours of skimming on websites and comparing
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834216541
its obviously out of his price range though.
or,
http://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-Black-17.3-g7-2269wm-Laptop-PC-with-AMD-Quad-Core-A8-4500M-Accelerated-Processor-and-Windows-8-Operating-System/21634589
because he original budget was 400, I told him it was unlikely to find a laptop that would run D3 and other games smoothly for that much.

I'd really like to find him something better so he isn't "wasting" his money or not happy with what he gets.

Also a question, I was reading some of these processors have turbo boosts for the CPU which OCs them from like 2.4 -> 3.4 or 1.9 -> 2.8, does that void warranty?

I'm also pitching him the idea of a desktop using that for gaming instead of a laptop, would he get a better price:performance? I don't know how much gaming on the go he plans to do and he already has a laptop but it can't run games whatsoever but he could lug that around.

Any insight is always appreciated from the OCN community! biggrin.gif

Tell him he is unlikely to find something that will satisfy him in his budget range. He will get his quad-core processor but not dedicated graphics.

If he wants a $600 gaming rig, a desktop is going to be his only option.

Yea I figured as much but I told him I would look around, If he doesn't go the desktop route, is that toshiba for 780 worth it? it seems like its a good processor I know it bench's waayy beyond my 965BE and a fairly good graphics card, also 1920x1080. but is it worth almost a third, and double of his orginal budget.
How long would this last him gaming wise, hes isn't one for all the eye candy, he just likes games to run smoothly, so I figure if he can run things on high/max now then he can run them on low/med lower resolution as games come out that get more demanding.

Care to elaborate unless its just faboyism, I got a HP myself and its a good computer minus the OEM, and I've had my fair share of issues with acers for my roommate has one that I've to mess around with aside from it being an overpriced mini stove, you can cook eggs on the bottom of this laptop. not saying all Hps are good nor saying all acers are bad but my friend doesn't like Acers and its not my $.
