3D Vision Surround Monitor Compatibility

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I am considering an upgrade and need some advice on if everything will work as I hope.

I currently have 3x GTX 280's powering an ACER HN274H 3D monitor and I love the 3D, but I have the itch for more.

I am looking at upgrading to 2 GTX Titan's to power 3 1920X1080 3D Vision 2 monitors.

I have been looking at the Benq XL2420TX and XL2420T, which is what brings me to my question:

since the XL2420TX has the built in emitter, and I only need one emitter, can I buy a single XL2420TX and two XL2420T and have them work together in 3D Vision?

I seem to recall there being issues with mixed monitors for surround, but I have not personally tried it.

Thanks!

PS - Another question: I want to use displayport, but would only have 2 connections from the cards, does the displayport daisy chaining work with 3D?

Only one Emitter is functional. having 3 different monitors is not a problem just different colors etc. And make sure they are the same resolution size doesn't matter. I had a 27 + 2 24's and it still worked for surround 3d wonky looking. and i believe daisy chaining does not work not sure though just from what i read no first hand experiences

Even though those are basically the same panels only the later 2 with out the 3d emitter, Nvidia states you need a exactly the same monitors for 3d surround.

On the other hand you can get it to work with some tweaking. But is not always 100% successful and can cause issues.

There are some limitations to DP connections with some drivers. New drivers are stated to work ok with those BenQ & DP. But you will have to test to be 100% sure it will work. If not you can add a DP to DVI-d adapter. http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/guides/how-to-correctly-configure-geforce-gtx-680-surround#1

With my experience with 3d surround there can be complications even with the standard connections. If I were you and if you haven't purchased anything yet I would not throw another wrench in the mix and stick with the tried & true 3 dual link DVI with exact monitors.

^ what he said! thumb.gif
Save yourself from hassle, get 3 exact monitors otherwise you might have to rewrite EDID's to make the drivers "see" the monitors, I know someone that bought 1 ASUS VG278H and 2 ASUS VG278HE, he went through hell until someone gave him a EDID to override his 2 VG278HE ( and in the process lost 144hz to 120hz)
Anyway my advice is stick to 3 exact monitors or you might be opening a can of worms! wink.gif

Cheers

Ed
