when will 780gtx prices drop

Thread Starter
hi I am itching bad to grab a new gtx780 as I can still get about 100 canadian for my used gigabyte 570gtx superclock. if I wait more than two more weeks I won't be able to get a 100 bucks for my gpu. so I need to know if anyone has a clue when the first price cuts and how much they will be for a gtx780. the lowest I can find a decent gtx789 is close to 700 canadian. I am also looking at how worth it is it to vet a 780 instead of say a gtx 770 lighting or overclocked asus. from reading some of the reviews the 770 if overclocked is within a few fps of 780gtx. I realize you can oc a 780 too. but the 770 I can get for under 500. is the 780 really worth that extra 200 bucks??

You canadians get the best prices tongue.gif There is not going to be any price cuts on the 780 in the near future because nVidia has no competition at the moment. I would say a 780 is worth it because if you upgrade from 570->770 that would essentially be 570 to a 680 which isn't that great of a difference. The 780 overclocked easily beats a Titan at single monitor resolutions

780 prices won't drop unless something forces them to drop. That thing being the 9000 series from AMD, but that won't be for a while.

a 570 to 680 will net you a nice performance increase, a 570 - 780 will be a very nice treat for you. Get the ACX superclocked if you can, its 10$ more, higher binned chip and many hit titan level performance

Price might drop depending on the 9000 series which is rumored for october, rumor has it the 9970 ( Son to be rebranded to R9) will be inbetween the 780 and titan, which is a pretty small place to hit. I doubt AMD will price it low at launch, most likely 600$ and depending where nvidia drops the 780 they might stay or go down to 550$. But those are just that, rumors.

I doubt the performance of the 9970, simply because it will be a refreshed 7970, keep in mind the 780 is not a refreshed 680, its nvidia real high end chip, for AMD to get that big of a performance increase from a refresh is unlikely but possible
