Is it possible to swap an i3 for an i5 in a dell desktop?

I don't know where this post belongs, so feel free to move it if need be.

I have a dell 7010 workstation with an i3 ivy bridge and I want to replace it with an i5 ivy bridge. Will this damage my system?

Thanks!

They're both the same socket so you'll probably be just fine smile.gif

Yeah, they're both using LGA 1155, but make sure your PSU is up to the task as it's going to consume a bit more power.

You might not be able to...same socket or not. The board and bios may very well limit you to what it'll take.

IMO they're probably using the same board for a good majority of those workstations to cut down on cost. Since the i5 is listed as an upgrade option, I doubt it'd be any different.

Go to page 12, choose a CPU model listed, down to the trailing letter. Those are the ones Dell enables on your board.
