Help choosing my first ever andorid phone (One X+ or Xperia Z)

hi all....

as the title says , yep ,i`v been living in a cave for a while and just now i decided to update from my Symbian SE Vivaz to some android .and since its the first ever android to have, so i got lost between the huge number of choices in the market now.

so in short words i`m looking for a mobile that can do those tasks:

1- good battery life (gaming + alot of Music).
2- decent HW and storage , for web and ebooks , and demanding apps (like music and video converters).
3- supports alot of media types (MKV,FLV,FLAC....).
4- solid build , (i drop my phone very often).
5- good looking , and to have decent screen.

i did some researches and found what seems to be good phones for me; the HTC One X+ and Xperia Z. but i`m not quite sure about them .
so help me decide between them, and of course feel free to suggest any another phones as long as they don't exceed 550$.

thanks in advanced

First of all, I know you've said that it must be under 550$ but the HTC One (which is 600$ in the US, not sure about Syria) is probably the phone that has the best build quality of all Android phones so if you take that into account alongside the amazing specs and the fact that I believe it fullfils all your other requirements, it is a great choice but a bit higher than what you want to pay. I'm simply mentioning it in case you decide to spend a bit more in the end.

thanks for the reply , but i don't think that i can go beyond the 600$ .
i noticed the HTC One being great phone , but still its very expensive , its 690$ here , while the One X+ (32GB) is 470$, and the Xperia Z is about 560$.

and what made me reluctant about the Xperia Z is what people saying about the screen being easy to break despite what Sony claims for being shatter proof, and also the terrible loud speaker it has. and the One X+ because of its battery being a short life one.

any other recommendation?

Nexus 4 then? Mostly good considering your requirements but not a lot of storage. To take care of that, use the money you'll have left (it's very cheap compared to the other phones) to buy a Wi-Fi hard drive like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148755 Leave it in your back pack or something, use the internal storage for your favorite music and apps and read of the hard drive for video and the rest of your music. If you do not carry a back pack or a suit case with you, that could be a problem though...

If that's a problem then the One X+ is a good phone and so is the Xperia Z. You can't really go wrong with either of these.

My first initial suggestions would be HTC One X+ (or HTC One), Xperia Z, Note 2, S4, or Nexus 4

Hmm...
1. Depends on which games u play really. If its really high end like gameloft or emulators or something well then tough look lol cuz they can suck a TON of battery. Music should be fine across all phones. I mean the sound quality across android is ok but not that great. Im personally rooted and run Viper4Android which makes everything sound better tongue.gif (but again V4A is root). If you are looking for just running stock and no rooting, then I would suggest the Xperia Z. Clear Audio+ and XLoud aren't much but they will make a slight difference.
2. Pretty much everything in initial suggestions should do fine. They're all quad cores, just some are newer (like S4) and some older (like Xperia Z) although speed difference shouldn't be huge.
3. mentioned in 1
4. That's kind of tough. I mean i can't really comment here cuz I almost never drop my phone but for that matter, I might stay away from Nexus 4 with the glass back (although that might be fixed and stuff).
5. Good looking and decent screen: HTC One hands down. Aluminum and S-LCD 3 is a winner for me.
If it isn't available then S4 should be nice with the Super AMOLED.

Overall, I would still suggest the HTC One. If not that, then the S4 is the next.
But for me there's an X-Factor here tongue.gif : the speed of updates: let me just tell u HTC is the WORST at this. It takes forever to roll updates since they have more phones then they can possibly support. However they are getting better which is seen by fact that the HTC One has 4.2.2 (or is that just for root???). With the HTC One it might also be noted that HTC stops updates for phones really prematurely. They are planning to stop One X (which was previous flagship) development after 4.2.2. That being said, HTC One is still going to get Android 5.X but the future for updates towards HTC One is kind of uncertain. Meanwhile the Nexus 4 is the first to get updates since its running Google software and won't need to be reskinned to manufacturer liking. It is currently running Android 4.3 (which is newest). Samsung seems to be the next fastest due to their complete cheap and crap design of Touchwiz (in my opinion at least).

SO my final conclusion is still the HTC One and then the S4 tongue.gif

Thanks all for reply , how ever i think that i have to chose between two phones only , the One X+ 64GB and Xperia Z (where i live not everything is available) and considering that there is not much differences in the performance part. so my questions are like this now:

1-The Battery what about battery life on bith phones ,does the One X+ batter that short life, and are those battery saving and under-clocking CPUs apps really help?

2- The Gamepad as for the games part i was planning to hook the phone to a wireless gamepad that will be used also for my PC , and i`v heard that Xperia Z will have a native Dulashock3 compatibility (which also can work on PC) , so in short words its about the gamepad compatibility that worries me about the One X+ so are their any gamepad solutions that can work on both the One X+ and PC.

3- The Proofing . because of the proofing in the Z the phone ended up having the worst loud speaker and a screen that many reviews said that it was a disappoint when it comes to colors and viewing angles , and many people said that proofing is not very effective with many reporting broken screens, so is it really worth that sacrifice?

the phones prices are like this:
Xperia Z: 590$
One X+ (64GB): 550$.

thanks again people , and sorry for the long questions , it is really my first android to have.

If the One X+ is that much cheaper than really, that's what you should go for if you don't want/can't get a Nexus 4. The HTC One X was already pretty good and I fail to see how the One X+ could be worst...
