asus P5ND2 Sli deluxe driver issue - other PCI bridge device???

post #1 of 4

Hi guys,

I recently needed the use of the ethernet port on my ASUS P5ND2 SLi deluxe MB, so I enabled NV LAN and Intel LAN in the BIOS. I have the Intel Pro/1000 MT Network Connection driver installed properly within windows XP, but I now have this other unknown device called 'Other PCI Bridge Device'. I do not have a clue:

1) what this is;
2) where I can get drivers for it;
3) what purpose it serves.

If anyone can help me answer those 3 questions I'd be a happy guy

Cheers, J

Make sure you have the latest NForce Drivers from NVidia. When installing them, you will be asked if you want to install drivers for various things.. you will want to make sure you install the drivers for the SMBUS. That is more than likely your missing PCI Bridge, as this driver configs the North and South bridge devices.

Cool that did the trick, thank you!
So what is the difference between the NV LAN and Intel LAN - I think I only have one LAN port on the back of my PC. Whats the SMBUS for?

SMBUS is "Systems management Bus" Think of it as what Controls the PCI slots, and all the addons, like the onboard audio and LAn jacks.

with an NFORCE Board, the SMBUS is the NFORCE portion, thats why it requires that driver. On a regular Intel Board, the SMBUS supplied by XP is sufficient, and doesnt ask for specific drivers.

As Far as NVLAN vs Intel LAN.

I could be wrong here so dont take ym word for it, the NVLAN is the software side , that allows for the IP Cheduling aspects of the NFORCE board. Nvidia claims that you can shcedule which packets go in what order through the NIC.

It could also be referencing the onboard NIC supplied with the NFORCE chipset, but I thought the NFORCE was based on the MARVEL Nic, not an on Intel. Not really sure how to answer your question without more information.
