not to single you out selectodude but your all missing my point, i dont care about the pi score and thats not what i was asking/talking about, i was talking about its ability to oc and how this may change if all corew were active or if some were disabled not whether it would effect the score of a 1m run or something
It would reduce heat and raise the overclock, yes. I don't know why you would want to do that though...

Finally for the first time ever in the history of this forum and the enquirer, an article that I can actually believe (not because there has never been a CPU from Intel where over-clocked at 5.0ghz+ it has finished PI in 11 sec, heck the record is 9.xxx seconds with an X6800 at 5.0ghz+ as well) and with all those pictures as well.

I didn't read the article but the headline and pictures are enough proof that it's for the first time in history the enquirer actually posting something believable.

It must be a fluke. Or maybe someone actually bothered to get some facts for the first time ever.

Where is the 5Ghz?

I am with Nasgul. There is no reason to post crap .... err information... from Inquirer. It is a useless source.

Keep it clean please.

Selectodude, people disable cores to get higher overclocks all the time. Not for long-term usage, but for suicide shots. At least I heard that people do. I wouldn't bother doing it either.

What does it mean 1178FSB? Is that the quad-pumped FSB meaning that somehow they had a 17x multi on a Kentsfield or that they went 1178FSB on a 4x or 5x multi?

I don't understand that... maybe they just transposed numbers?

EDIT: Are the Extreme's acutally FULLY unlocked on the multi? I was completely oblivious to this if so lol...

It says they started with an 18x Multi.

1066 -> 1178mhz FSB = 294mhz
294*17.0 = 4998.
