Not sure if I've installed my CPU incorrectly

post #1 of 4
Thread Starter
CPU: i7-4770k
MOBO: Maximus VI Gene

I think I unhinged the CPU plate while pushing the lever down - please tell me if this is the case.
Have I bent the pins (I really can't tell)?

Sorry about this, it's my first build and I'd hate to have messed up.

Bent pins reflect light differently and are very very noticeable, no pins appear to be bent and the 115x sockets are supposed to do that, one side slides out from under the single screw. It's strange when coming from LGA775 where there was a static bracket that also stayed on the board. Line up the CPU tabs and insert it in the socket, then lower the retention plate while leaving the lever up, the slot on the plate will go under the single screw and then you can lock the lever down.

I don't see any bent pins. Fortunately, as long as the CPU is oriented properly when you lay it down into the socket there isn't much that can go wrong after that. The PCB on the CPU has two 1/2 moon notches that correspond to the 1/2 moon tabs on the upper left and right hand sides of the socket. The little gold triangle on the lower left hand corner of the CPU should be aligned with the little gold marking on the lower left hand corner of your CPU socket. Here's a photo illustrating the alignment / installation points I'm talking about;

I didn't notice that the pins were aligned diagonally before I placed my CPU, which is why I thought they were bent when I removed it!

Thanks guys.
