Looking for sub $150 headphones

Thread Starter
These are the things I'm looking for:

-For whole ears to fit into the headphone cups
-None or very little sound leakage
-Light weight
-Comfortable for big head
-For all types of music + gaming

I've tried wearing the Bose AE2 headphones... I don't remember exactly what I thought about them, but I loved their light weight! They also muffled out outside noise very well. So I'm looking for something like that. I've heard AE2 don't have great sound, and some people said they don't fit big heads comfortably, so I'm looking for something else.

AKG K240s... amazing for the price...

Edit: The BOSE headphones (can't remember which model), after a treble boost they sound pretty good actually.

Take a look at the CAL (Creative Aurvana Live). They are a re-badged version of the now out of production Denon 1001. The denon listed for about what you're willing to pay. The CAL's usually run about $75 or so, with sales going down to $60 every once and a while.

The CAL is a closed (no/low sound leakage), over the ear lightweight and comfortable headphone (low clamping force). I've been super happy with my pair, and they're well respected for their value, competing very well with headphones in the price range you're looking at.

Another one that I know is good is the Audio Technica M50. Its a similar type of headphone (closed, over the ear), and they retail for a bit over $100 usually. They're a bit larger, so they're a bit heavier, but I've never personally used them.

And also, finally, usually the the real headphone guys will tell you that headphones that are closed (like what you're looking for), are not as good at gaming, because the soundstage is usually smaller. Open back headphones on the other hand have generally a larger soundstage (better spacial cues), but they leak a ton of sound, and usually have less (or much less) bass. So depending on what is most important to you, you might change a bit of what you're looking for. Then again, maybe not.

I don't game competitively at all, and I find my CAL's totally fine for gaming, but your mileage may vary.

Good luck smile.gif.
