Installing Windows 7 on the MSI GT60 2OC

Thread Starter
Hey guys, my brother just bought this new laptop hoping to install windows 7 over the windows 8 that it came with.
I'm having a hard time finding windows 7 drivers for it, also I saw something on the MSI website about bricking my system?

Hoping someone here can straighten things out for us.
Thanks!

Why not stick to Windows 8? I really don't understand all the hate for it.

Because he prefers Windows 7. Do you have any useful information?

Installing a new OS can't brick your system. If it did and designed to brick itself if you tried, you could sue the company for it. No one is that stupid. tongue.gif However... installing Windows 8 exclusive/designed-for updates can potentially harm your system. I would just look up the individual components, wifi card, GPU, ethernet drivers, etc, and install those from the actual manufacturer's website. Little more time consuming, but yeah. Tis what I do.

That aside, there's nothing to really fear about this idea. You're good. Same as any system. biggrin.gif

I'm pretty confident I've downloaded all the necessary drivers but I'm concerned about the firmware that controls the touchpad next to the power button and the backlit keyboard. Will those windows 8 drivers work with windows7?

You're going to have to install the Windows 8 drivers and report back whether or not they worked with Windows 7. I noticed a similar situation with the ASUS G750 series, there are no Windows 7 drivers posted on ASUS' support site.

I know your brother prefers Windows 7, but he really should give Windows 8 a fair shake. It's faster starting up and shutting down, has vastly superior Hyper-V virtualization, Storage Spaces, better OS self-healing and anti-malware protection, better power management control, better Sand more. Yes, the front end user interface takes a little getting used to (like 1 hour), but once you get over that - it's really a better OS than Windows 7.
