hello i just bought and build a

i74770k
g1 sniper 5 *gigabyte
16 gb hyperx 2133 memory *running on xmp profile 2 1600mhz*
a old 830 128 ssd
1 tb wd velociraptor
2 tb WD feax black
creative zxr sound card *stand alone and yes i turned the z chip from the mobo off*

i have this strange issue that my memory gets full over a long gaming period and when i quit gaming it will not empty out.
and a pc at 99,8% memory used
i notice it ALWAYS happens when i installed something in the back ground on steam or alt tabed and browsed while playing.

i already tested my hdd's with hdtune and my memory with the boot version of memtest cant figure out what is wrong with the pc at all.

for some reason i think the machine is using some of the unused memory space as a hard disk read that was possible but i havent turned that on at all i think.

in extreme paranoia i re isntalled win 7 and played on that for about a week and gues what no memory issues after 8 hours of usage without reboots memory still at 12% when having no applications open.
and then as soon as i put over my win 8 pro upgrade version **** litteraly hits the fan

anybody familiar with this before i seriously think im cursed and all my pc 's should have some sorta stupid malfunction frown.gif

i was able to reproduce my memory bug

gamed wow for 4 hours tonight * raid heh* and i thought lets check my memory and suprise 27% used of 16 gb so i thought hmm lets try and game 30 more minuts and install 16 gig game trough steam while playing wow.
and bam within 20 minuts my memory in use rose from 27% to 67% after the install finished it stoped at 68% and it never returned to 27%

so most def windows or the new haswel chip is using un used work memory as a hard drive and just plainly forgets to wipe it from the memory frown.gif

why cant they make new features without inserting major bugs

so anybody eliminated this bug or knows how to turn the protocol off

This is not abnormal. Once memory is allocated, it is not always deallocated properly. If Steam is not deallocating memory properly, there is not much that can be done. If it is Windows 7, I have not experienced this issue. I am running Ivy Bridge and will test installing a game with Steam this evening. I'll let you know!

Are you having any performance issues because of this?

If not, don't worry about it. Newer versions of windows tend not to clean out memory much unless the memory is needed. This makes it so if you quit WoW, and then play it again in a few mins, the data is already in RAM and the game will load up much faster.
