Upgrade or new PC ?

Thread Starter
Hi,

My actual PC looks like this:

Case: Coolermaster HAF 922

Processor: Intel Core i5 2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3 GHz

CPU cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212+

Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 PRO

Video card: MSI N570 GTX "Twin Frozr II" 2 GB

Power supply: Silverstone Strider Plus 750W SILVER

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 750 GB

SSD: Kingston HyperX 3K 128 GB

Memory: Kingston HyperX 8 GB @ 1600 MHz

Now, I'm asking myself if I should buy a new one next summer or simply upgrade the video card and cooler, in order to play games like BF4 and Rome II: Total War at highest settings.

For the video card, I would go for a EVGA GTX 780 ACX

For the cooler, I would go for a Coolermaster Seidon 240M

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103181

- Do you know if the Seidon 240M will fit on top of the HAF 922 case ?

- Which thermal paste would you recommend to replace the stock one that comes with the cooler ?

GPU > CPU. Overclock the 2500k, would be good to go.

IMO, there is no need for a new PC. However, your graphics card could definitely do with an upgrade. The one you have listed is very good but just keep in mind AMD will be releasing the 9000 series soon! Which will only lower the price of the 700 series cards or possibly have something at the same price with better performance.

As far as the cooler, I don't think it is necessary to upgrade as the extra OC will be negligible in terms of performance and you wont notice the difference.

Just my $0.02

Just get a new VGA something Like GTX770 or GTX780 and you are set, the 2500K is a very good CPU.
For the cooler take a look at swiftech H220

going to go against the grain here, and just warn you that Rome II: Total War will be VERY cpu intensive, they always have been. I run two 7950's and in big battles on Shogun 2 im often around 30 fps or lower with low gpu usage, and thats witha 4.8ghz 2600k. i think in these situations the extra 25% ish awarded by haswell may make a big difference:thumb:

Seidon should fit just fine, not sure if I would go with a Seidon though. Probably would see if I could get a Swiftech H220 or an H100i instead.

I would probably look at some Prolimatech PK3 or Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra.
