Not sure, but this might be helpful:

http://ericolon.wordpress.com/2013/01/06/the-secrets-of-yify-and-high-quality-and-small-file-sizes-are-not-so-secret-after-all-encoding-high-quality-low-bitrate-videos-in-handbrake-for-any-device/

Big thing is choosing the right resolution and bitrate mix. Or go for a constant quality level. (CRF) Apparently 16-20 is a good range for imperceptible quality loss, but results in huge files. You might find values as high as the mid 20's more suitable if you want a smaller size.

Make sure your profiles are set right (quite high), although you don't need that many extra options. Things like B-Frames and Ref frames will really increase the encoding time if you have them set to too many. They also make it harder to decode the video, and thus are unsuitable for super-high bitrates.

Finally, if you want speed, make sure the Turbo options are turned on. (Fast first pass, etc.)

And if you're dealing with a high motion video, you'll have to increase the motion detection range a lot. (Which unfortunately hits the encoding time rather hard.)

GPU encoding will not yield better quality than CPU encoding, so don't even bother with that. I think some encoders can do a bit of the pre-processing on GPU, but doing the actual encoding there provides lackluster results.

There is an option in handbrake to allow large file sizes, and I think you have to use that to have file sizes larger than 4GB. Give that a shot.

I use constant quality, and have it set to 20. Its working fine for me on SD stuff, but I don't have any HD material to test on.

Good luck smile.gif.

I am having some serious problems. I can get the audio to work, but the video is just crazy. I am obviously doing something wrong. I am looking for that 4gb file size setting. I have a 25gb Hobbit I want to keep. I have 64 bit, but it would make sense if some switch needs to be on. I simply cannot find it.

The article is interesting. Do you guys just use a single core? how do you do that? I so not see the setting. I like using all eight, but if this is my problem I am game to fix it.

Thanks.
