GPU temperature senser miscallibrated?

Thread Starter
I am running Gigabyte GTX 670 Windforce 3X OC 2GB and lately I have run into weird problem. Whenever I play gpu heavy game, my GPU temp instantly jumps from 20C to 98C in matter of seconds. And when I switch from that game back to windows desktop, it jumps instanly back to around 30C in MSI Afterburner. I simply can't see how 60C jump in matter of seconds temperature is physically possible.

So my question is, could my gpu senser be malfuctioning or is problem elsëwhere? Is there something I can do to fix that problem?

Use some other temperature monitoring software try HWMonitor.

Have you took off the stock cooler at all? Do you have enough airflow to the card? Anything causing blockages?

OP, that kind of jump is possible if your GPU's heat sink is not on properly. My 7970 goes from 40c (idle) to 60 in like .5 of a sec. It then steadily increases after though hitting 80 after a good 30 seconds.
