It can upgrade to a C2D I'm sure, as they also shipped with E2160's it looks (which are dual-core, 65W TDP).

But here's a protip: Search for "Intel dual-core 775 CPU", sort by price low-high, and check buy-it-now only. I picked up an Intel Pentium E6300 for $14 shipped a couple weeks back, and it's a 2.8ghz dual-core, surely as fast as a 2.6-2.7ghz C2D.

$15, 2.8ghz Pentium Dual-core. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Pentium-Dual-Core-E5500-2-8GHz-Socket-775-CPU-Processor-SLGTJ-NICE-/251305070597?pt=CPUs&hash=item3a82f31005
$25, 3.0ghz C2D. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-2-Duo-E6850-3-0GHz-4M-1333MHz-775-CPU-SLA9U-/390635584532?pt=CPUs&hash=item5af3b1fc14
