I bought two of those boards. I build on a bench then transfer to a case, both of these boards were updated and both did the random freeze crap.
I swapped a different ASUS board in with the same chipset, loaded up, problems over. Returned the two Mobo: Asus M5A97 R2.0.

As usual, your mileage may vary. I was getting funky DEP codes thrown if i recall correctly.

Damn man, i really hope it isnt the mobo. I have the LE version of that mobo and I had freezing also, it went after I replaced my PSU, atleast, thats what I think fixed it. Thanks for the response man.

Also, what build of BIOS is on that board?

Its build 1708, ASUS interface on American Megatrends Bios

Do a diskchk. Odds of a DOA hard drive are far higher than really anything else

Telling him to do this before anything, thanks

I hope not too. Always a pain in the butt. Obviously its not time to throw money at it yet, there is still plenty of things to test. I just wanted to throw that out there in case you got to the point of beating your head against a wall. The boards I had were the LE's as well.

I use ASUS boards exclusively now and thats honestly the only model I have ever had trouble with. If yours straightened out, perhaps there is a patch that hooked you up. My experience with them was about a year ago. Make sure you have all the updates etc for the op system. Good luck man.

Really? I have been using this board for about 5 months now and my AMD system has NEVER froze. It did do some strange things before I updated the BIOS and such, but not since.

EDIT: Actually I have the M5A97 LE R2.0, sorry about that.
