2 Router question

Thread Starter
Can I use one router as ethernet connection only (to connect a desktop, printer, DirecTV), and then use another router to handle the WiFi?
Let me show you what I want and you guys can tell me if this will work or not.

Router 1: Connected to WAN (modem), all ethernet ports will be used on this router and WiFi will be turned off. I will take an ethernet cable to the 2nd router so that can distribute the WiFi.
Router 2: Only using 1 LAN port to connect WiFi units.

Reason: Router 1 drops WiFi connections, but fast LAN connections
Router 2 has slow LAN connections when all 4 LAN connections are used, but great WiFi
Thanks for the confirmation that it will work guys, will try it now.

So basically you want to turn one router into a WAP.

Very easy:

If you don't use DD-wrt, just read under review. All you need to do is turn off DHCP and change the ip address of the router you want to turn into a wap.

Sure, although I don't see a hugely compelling reason to set it up this way.
