yes the SLI 670's are technically stronger the the gameplay and the 3GB to 2GB comparison was nice to have.
this might sound strange but I didn't miss a beat gaming off the single 780.
before I swapped it out for the 770's I also added a GTS 450 for PhysX and jammed on BL2 and Metro.

Sorry, having trouble following. Are you saying that even though a single 780 technically has less overall power than two 670s, the 780 still felt the same or better to play with? Or did I miss that completely...

I had a similar experience going from SLI 2GB 560 Tis to a single 670. The performance numbers were roughly the same but the 670 felt far less jittery in demanding titles.

It's kind of funny, I ran SLI for years and was never really bothered by micro-stuttering until I switched back to a single card and saw just how smoothly they ran. Dipping into the 40s was barely noticeable on a single card, whereas it felt like dipping into the 20s by comparison on my SLI rig.

Alright, I'm gonna go ahead and do it then. Thanks guys! Really quick though, a Windforce 780 has a reference PCB though right? I'm going to be watercooling the thing in the future.

to be honest I can't say, I'd have to look it up, I know that I have Ver 1 and now Gigabyte makes a Ver 2.
some slight changes were made to the VRM and the BIOS on Ver 2 AFAIK..

Cooling configurator is saying it's reference, I'll get a model number from the guy to confirm it's the same.
