i7-3770K vs i7-4770K

Hey guys,

I am currently choosing components for my first computer. I have never done this before so some of my questions might be 'noobish'.
I have been reading a lot that the i7-3770K is way better for OC (something I am thinking of doing).
Now my question is:
Should i go for the i7-3770K or for i7-4770K.

I hope i get some Helpfull anwers and hope i understand averything.

Sorry for the bad English tongue.gif

If its a new build I would go with the i7 4770k,newer socket/tech,if you are on 1155 and just upgrading I would go with the 3770k....

The 3770k is not "way" better for overclocking. It is, however, a little better. Typically, you can expect to get 4.5-4.6 out of a 3770k without any exotic cooling. Given that this is your first build and are a self proclaimed novice, I'm guessing you aren't going the custom loop route. With the 4770k, you're looking at 4.2-4.5 depending on luck of the draw. However, because of the IPC (instructions per clock) improvements, a 4.4 4770k will perform about on par with a 4.6 ghz 3770k. My advice? Go with the cheaper 3770k. Neither of them are going to bottleneck any setup and you'll probably have more fun overclocking the 3770k because you're likely to be able to clock it higher.

Now you have my opinion on the matter. Good luck with your build smile.gif

I am from Belgium and prices are very high here.
Both these CPU's cost exactly the same amount and so do the Mobo's with them.
Wich one should you guys chose.
It is a completly new build since this is my fist decent pc tongue.gif

And no, for the moment i am not thinking of very special watercooling. I will buy a prebuilt one: the H100i
post #5 of 8
if same price, go with the newer 4770k, it is fast, and will overclock well for your first build.
In that case, go for the 4770k. Might as well get the new tech if it's the same price.
