I've been pretty busy. But I think I'll look into getting some LN2 next week again. Honestly though, unless you actually need a 3820K as well I'd really recommend actually looking into a CPU pot. You'll get much more fun out of that and it'll last pretty much forever.

It's just a more expensive 8350. In this case price definitely is not indicative of performance.

A shame, seeing how we would most likely be getting IB-E with more cores if there was any competition for the intel hexa cores.

This chip was released a while ago.
It requires a decent cooling solution, AMD suggests at least an AIO like the h60/h80.
The FX 9590 is a binned and overclocked 8350 that requires 1.5v+ for the 5.0ghz turbo. Way more OC headroom? That's debatable, it's the same chip for a U$899,00 premium.

How does that work?

You either have fluxless solder or thermal paste as the TIM between the IHS and the chip. There's really no way to have both...

What does l2n frequency on a single core have to do with anything?

The 9590 @ 5ghz gets beat by a 3930k @ 3.2ghz.. So when you overclock the 3930k to 4.8ghz then the 9590 isn't even in the same league. Add to that that Ivy-e is faster than sandy-e and there is even more of a performance gap. You are trying to compare a mid-range cpu to a high-end cpu...there really isn't a comparison, SB-E wins along with the to be released IB-E.

This thread is for discussion of a real high end cpu. Frequency means absolutely nothing. This website is for "the pursuit of performance", not "the pursuit of high frequency and sub-par performance".

i meant that the chips are soldered as the SB chips were however the temps are still garbage despite the fact that they're not stuck together with glue + TIM which is what caused the subpar IB temps

IB-E should have much better temps than IB. People who delided and redid the TIM got very good reduction in temps (i.e. 20C+). And this is solder not CLU so it should do even better. I'm thinking these should OC just as well as SB/SB-E do on air/water.
