[TPU] Ivy-Bridge E Pricing - Page 6

What I really took from this is that the i7-4770k is $350. Holy crap.....I didn't realize it was THAT expensive

Thank god for Microcenter and Intel Retail Edge. Just bought an i7-3770k for $80, and they're usually around the $200 mark at Microcenter. At $350, you might as well just stretch it to the 3930k...

It's just a more expensive 8350. In this case price definitely is not indicative of performance.

A shame, seeing how we would most likely be getting IB-E with more cores if there was any competition for the intel hexa cores.
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2682778

And from this we can learn that high frequency doesn't mean high performance.

Can't even open the link thanks to my job and Barracuda. At any rate, I'm not trying to directly compare the 9590 to the 4770 or even the 3770 at this point. As far as performance goes, Intel is still the champion but as I said before, I see it as an indicator that AMD may be trying to get serious about high-end CPU's. Honestly, I see the 9590 as mostly a marketing ploy but at the same time It's still fast enough to be considered high-end as far as I'm concerned. I think with all the advances that Intel has made people tend to just act as if AMD isn't even relevant anymore, which to some degree is somewhat accurate. But, I don't think AMD would release the 9590 as an end-all, be-all to what AMD is capable of. Again, I think it's more of a "We're not done yet" type of thing. But I'm sorry if my inclusion of the AMD chip in "high-end" category was offensive to anyone and would like to withdraw it from the topic from this post forward.

It requires a decent cooling solution, AMD suggests at least an AIO like the h60/h80.
The FX 9590 is a binned and overclocked 8350 that requires 1.5v+ for the 5.0ghz turbo. Way more OC headroom? That's debatable, it's the same chip for a U$899,00 premium.

My mistake, I had read an article about someone getting it pre-release for benchmarking a couple weeks ago not realizing that it actually came out that following week....so it's been out for 2 whole weeks now...didn't know 2 weeks is "a while ago".

What does l2n frequency on a single core have to do with anything?

The 9590 @ 5ghz gets beat by a 3930k @ 3.2ghz.. So when you overclock the 3930k to 4.8ghz then the 9590 isn't even in the same league. Add to that that Ivy-e is faster than sandy-e and there is even more of a performance gap. You are trying to compare a mid-range cpu to a high-end cpu...there really isn't a comparison, SB-E wins along with the to be released IB-E.

This thread is for discussion of a real high end cpu. Frequency means absolutely nothing. This website is for "the pursuit of performance", not "the pursuit of high frequency and sub-par performance".

What are you talking about "single core"? I think I missed something there. Anyway, you're right this website is about the "pursuit of performance" and I guess I just got excited to see AMD do something that Intel hasn't done yet but since they still haven't come out with a viable contender to the i7 then I should probably refrain from bringing them up. It won't happen again.

Good news, I was definitely expecting these to be slightly more than the current Sandy Bridge-E pricing.

The new instructions are already getting used.

Anyone care to speculate, how big of a deal not having the AVX2,F16C and FMA3 instructions is in terms of future proofing? I was hoping that the 4930k would be the last CPU upgrade for a few years.

Intel has done this before, they were desperate with the 1.13 GHz Pentium III and the later Pentium IVs. Granted, Intel didn't go so far as recommend water cooling in order run at "stock," but close enough.. There is the 5GHz+ overclock club on overclock.net, if Intel were desperate they could have done the same move.

I'm sorry, english isn't my first language, I was under the impression that "a while ago" was used to express something that happened some time in the past while not defining the exact time. But, as opposed to "a long time ago", it was something that happened recently.
Maybe "in the past weeks" would fit better.

Presumably Haswell-E will come with a new chipset (X99?) that will have all the modern connectivity options that Z87 has for its mainstream counterpart (6x SATA-III, PCIe 3.0, native USB3, etc.)
