3770k watercooled OC to 4.8 question

Thread Starter

Is that voltage good for daily use? I'm currently on water and I didn't change the voltage in the BIOS I just left it on auto and changed the multiplier. Is it really necessary to set a fixed Vcore? I tried this chip at 5 ghz but it needed like 1.5 volts which I felt is entirely too much. I guess I have a bad chip?

A rule of thumb for cpu ocing is to never go above 1.55 NO MATTER WHAT, but realistically for daily use you should never go above 1.45

I see. Right now should i just leave it on auto voltage though? @ max load the voltage only hits like 1.428

If you are happy with the temps then yeah! But by fine tuning the voltage you can get those temps lower.

take it off auto!
make sure you are using LLC at 75% (no extreme 100% for daily running please).

and tune in the vcore manually until fully stable in Cinebench 11.5 x64 (CPU render test), after each run go to Windows Event Viewer and check the Logs for WHEA warnings, if you see them occuring at time of benchmark (even if benchmark succeeded) then you need to raise vcore further until they are gone. it takes minutes with Cinebench and in 99% cases you will also be stable for 24 hours in Prime95 too if your memory settings are not a problem.

that should save you some years of CPU life as most likely you will end up with MUCH lower stable vcore on the end.

Good luck!
