Games usually cache VRAM, what they actually use can be real mystery. Anyway @ 1080p 3GB VRAM is so much, cant even see it as bottleneck @ 1440p. Also keep in mind that there are better AA methods than overkill MSAA and SSAA (those eat so much VRAM), i personally use custom SMAA just because i can get better colors aswell with filters and the AA itself is sharp (also the fps hit is so small). I dont think games magically starts to demand insane hardware in next couple years, because new consoles are based on pc architechture (one would think that optimization would be actually better).
