16gb of Ram Worth it? - Page 2

There's a theoretical performance boost however it probably won't be noticeable in practice, mainly because if 8GB is still underutilized then there's not much disk retrieval going on (i.e. forced paging) so things should still be fairly snappy.

With most games I play (HoN, Skyrim, RS) my computer empties out the data it cached on the RAM when I exit the game. However, vital system tasks that are always running will not empty off my RAM. I have one at 700MB and another at 300MB. I will say that I have dealt with page filing before... and I will never get less than 8GB again.

EDIT: Also, as long as you use two cards, you can still use dual channel mode. I'm not sure which Intel platforms give tri- or quad-channel RAM configurations.

The real argument is with 16GB of ram it longer becomes an issue for anything. Since prices are so low anyway, there's very little reason why you wouldn't just go with the 16GB. If you were going with something more costly such as a Dominator Platinum 2133's or 2400's only then do I see an argument for going for less than 16GB.

8GB of Vengeance or 16GB of Vengeance. The only thing I would recommend is getting a single 8GB card now then getting a second one later down the road.

Get a 2 x 4gb kit. but faster. 1600mhz is the minimum you should look at but more than that, better.
I use photoshop too. My pc is not powerfull enough for 3d so I do all my 3d work on some clients pc sometimes and I have never seen the usage go beyond 6gb even while rendering an animation in 3d.

if you want to play around with VMs, 16gb is awesome. I have 4x 4GB 1600 sticks in my rig, and I hit above 8-12 GBs with just games, backround programs, and voip going fairly often. Depends on what speed you want to run your ram at. I dont care what anyone says, you cant have too much ram.
