Build my first PC myself. Gaming, Photoshop & Video editing. Extremely confused.

Hey all at OCN,

I'd like to start of by saying that know quite a bit about computers and what not in general. I'm no expert but I know the basics really. I'm looking forward to building my very first PC within the next few weeks but I'm completely lost in what to buy, I honestly never though it was this hard. I'm also Australian so any suggestions would need to be along the Australian prices, which are high.

I have a budget of $700 now and that's final, I don't need to included an OS. I will however need to buymyself a monitor, which I will have some money left over from the build of $700, so if it's really needed I could push into the money that will buy me the Monitor and use my TV (32" 1080P) for the time being.

First off I planned to build the PC all at once. I've now looked further along and I'm pretty sure I want to build the PC without a graphics's card in the $700 budget and add a nice card ($200 - $300) later on in the year. I know with the new Haswell's integrated graphics this is greatly possible.

I plan to use this PC for Gaming, Photoshop, Video Editing would be the task's which use the most of a PC. I plan on the PC also being used for general use like Internet Browsing & Homework.

My first major question Is I found myself a used PC that I'd be able to pick up on the weekend, the owner said it hasn't been used in months and it looks it by the dust it has collected. If I do buy this PC I plan to change out the PSU for a nice Corsair or similar. I'd also need to add a Graphics card which I could do at the same time of purchase. I managed to get the owner down to just $450 dollars. It used to have a GTX 650ti and the owner said he has never overclocked.

$450 Used PC
Intel I5 2500K
8gb of G.Skill Ram
AsRock Z68 Extreme 3 Gen 3
Thermaltake ISGC 400 CPU Cooler
1tb HDD
Thermaltake Armour+ MX Case
700W Thermaltake Litepower PSU < Will be changed.

My other questions is between the Intel & AMD, from what I see the FX series of AMD has more core's, which in some situations is better. Now the next gen consoles are going to have multiple core's which mean games will have better multi threading. From what I see now is the Intel series is better for gaming at the moment and with older games, but AMD is better for the price.

Anyway, looking to get some opinions on which way I should look, I'l update this in a little once I re-build some build's I have done. smile.gif

Thanks
My Rig

its a decent deal for $450, but we could probably build something newer around $500 without an hdd.
What shop are you gonna buy from? can you post their website so we can check the prices
