Thread Starter
Hi guys, i have a REALLY old Logitech Z-2300 2.1 system and would like to know if its worth buying a sound card for it. would something like a Xonar DX or DSX be worth it?

To tell you the truth, the only build I've ever put a sound card in was for a studio build. I've never been big on sound cards, as I find the hardware on the motherboards to be sufficient enough. Good luck boss! thumb.gif

I completely agree. I'm a huge music lover I always have music playing wherever I go and I never put any sounds card in a pc. Invest in a good set of speakers or headphones is what I do.

Depends a $30 Headphones wont need a soundcard but if ur using high end headphones or speakers a soundcard (or a dac/amp combo ) defo will make it sound beter right now im using a Amp from the 80's and it sounds 300% beter then any onboard sound ( way more bass and the music doesnt get so overwelming (have this most of the time with onboard) ) planning to get the modni/magni soon (dac/amp from Schiit) btw headphones im using = ultrasone Pro 900 and the Amp = Pioneer Stereo Amplifier SA=740.

edit : i did notice more Bass when amping a $50 Headphone from sennheiser gues it also depends wich brand

It depends on your needs. For casual music listening and games a good on board sound card is enough. But if you want to go a step further in audio quality a dedicated sound card is a must have. Having said that i dont think it will make any difference with your current logitech speakers.

ALC892 is a decent onboard soundcard (you have it).
With the usual Logitech speakers you might hear a teeny tiny difference, but nothing earthshattering.

If you get hissing/popping sounds, the onboard might get alot of EMI --> New soundcard would fix it.
