AMD FX-9370 4.4GHZ /4.7GHZ Boost or FX-8350 4.0GHZ/4.2GHZ Boost???

post #1 of 22
Thread Starter
Hey guys I'm sure this is a thread that everyone was wondering if someone compare these two CPU. Soooo moving on....its official the 9000 series processors are available for individual purchase on Amazon. I know is still pretty new/soon to do any real comparisons, BUT i just thought I would create this thread. Amazon has the FX-9370 for $341.00 and everyone thus far out of the little reviews I've seen said there is a significant speed increase that is noticeable (stock vs stock speeds).

http://www.amazon.com/AMD-FX-Series-Eight-Core-Processor-FD9370FHHKWOF/dp/B00DGHD2TA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375298247&sr=8-1&keywords=FX+9370

Now my question to you guys is (because I'm not the only one that thinks this... TDP is 220W!!!! My first thought was *** literally a 100W jump from 8350's 125W) as a gamer if you go AMD build would you go with the FX-8350 the same CPU that broke Guinness book world record of being Highest OCed CPU to date and is 8-core OR FX-9370 which is also 8-core with 0.2GHZ higher stock and 0.5GHZ higher boost??

FX-8350 - $189.99 - $199.99
Or
FX-9370 - $340-$349.99 (Same Price range of Haswell 4770K @$339.99; but lower than 3930K SB @$550- $565)

Through all your thoughts out there and lets get this thread rolling!!!!!!!!!!! biggrin.gif

Same architecture just clocked higher out of the box for $150 more. If you're gonna get a $350 cpu make it an Intel imo.

If you are going to overclock go for the 8350. Heck go for the 8320. Either are cheaper and you can just overclock them to the same speeds as the 9370. They are all the same chips just different stock clocks.

The new FX-9xxx series is aimed at fools. If you really want to build a new PC with an AMD CPU then just buy the 8350 or even the 8320 and overclock it. They will also have 220w+ TDP when clocked at those speeds anyways because they are the SAME.

On Intel's side, when they raise prices it's because you get more performance and features.

4670k = four unlocked cores.

4770k = four unlocked cores + hyperthreading + more L3 cache.

3930k = six unlocked cores + hyperthreading + even more L3 cache.

FX-8320 = "eight" unlocked cores.

FX-8350 = "eight" unlocked cores. Nothing added, just the same cpu clocked higher.

FX-9370 = "eight" unlocked cores. Again, nothing added, just the same cpu clocked higher.

take that $50 and get better fans for that water cooling loop the fans that come with it are weak.

suggestions for fans, bgears b-Blaster 120 120mm

This pretty much. Same thing as an 8350 but insanely priced. Nice going amd you dropped the ball on this attempt at high end cpus. Help you guys dropped the ball so hard it bounced back and hit you in the face. Unfortunately non tech smart people will buy it because OMG 5ghz OMG 8 cores Intel only has 4/6 cores that aren't even 4 ghz!!

This. There's no way an FX 8350 on water is going to lose to an FX 9000 when both are overclocked and you spend the same amount of money on both. Your choices are FX 9000 series with mediocre cooling or FX 8350 with good cooling and they're both the same chips. I Had hopes that AMD would have tweaked FX 9000 series a little bit but it seems like they haven't since it's not clocking like Trinity to Richland.

The 9*** series is a waste of cash and totally not worth it. Even if I got it for free I wouldn't be comfortable with using a chip with a stock TDP of 220.
