Whats the Point of Nvidia Shield?

Thread Starter
When I first heard of Shield I thought you would be able to connect to any WiFi and be able to stream your games from your PC. But after reading some reviews it sounds like you have to be on the same network. If you have to be on the same network whats the point; in every review of shield they state that there is a slight lag in games compared to the PC. So if I have to be on the same network why would I want to deal with, smaller screen, lag (lag KILLS), and only 720p resolution, when I can just walk over to my PC and not deal with any of those things. So I will ask again what the hell is the point?

The wifi streaming is still in beta phase, I'm sure when it is fully released that feature will be available. A big issue is speed though. You would have to have a good upload/download speed at both locations if you want it to be playable.

I'll chime in since I bought one. First off I've never liked and Droid games because for the most part all I had was phones and tablets to play on. I can't stand using touch screens for gaming and didn't like the idea of hooking a controller up to either of those devices. I know, sounds dumb but it's my preference. I've never liked paying the price for any of the hand held games either for things like the DS or PSP. Really, I wasn't a handheld guy. It's nice having a full controller and screen for cheap android games. But that's not what sold me. $300 for that is ridiculous. The streaming is what sold me. I don't have to be holed up in my office while my wife misses my company downstairs. I can play in bed in the middle of the night when my newborn is having trouble sleeping and needs to cuddle. Yeah, it's a total niche product. It doesn't compare to playing on a 27" Catleap, don't get me wrong. However my Catleap is really hard to move to my backyard when the weather is nice and I want to play something in my Steam library. That's the purpose of the Shield, and it works really well for being in Beta. I've got no regrets buying it. Yeah the price was high but so was everything else I did PC gaming related. I can see how a lot of people don't see the point though.
