My FX-9370 came today and I've run a Prime95 blend test on stock BIOS settings. The CPU settles on 4,4 GHz with no throtteling (like my FX-8320 even @3,5 GHz did) and temperatures are looking ok. I will definitely try out 4,7 or 4,8 GHz... wink.gif

Whatever throttling you got with that 8320 @ 3.5 GHz had to be motherboard related. I doubt it had anything whatsoever to do with the 8320 itself.

Well, I did only change out the CPU, soooooo....
You'll get the point... wink.gif

If you didn't disable APM, it was natural for the 8320 to do a "minithrottling" in Prime95. This is done by the motherboard, to avoid exceeding the nominal TDP. Usually, it does 3,5-3-3,5. The real throttling, goes 3,5-1,4-3,5. The real throttling though isn't caused by the CPU, but by the motherboard overheating.

So in both cases, it's the motherboard that decides when to throttle.

A normal 8320 has the low turbo at 3,8 and the final turbo at 4Ghz. So any "normal" FX8320 can do at least 4Ghz without problems. Unless you got a defective chip, but those are extremely rare and you would encounter problems with any application, crashes, BSODs, etc, not just with Prime.

Any opinions or sugestion for the leap above the 5.1 ?
Ill try to check the batch of my cpu when i disasemble the test bench for the final build.

37 idle @ 5.1 is very nice indeed sir.
It sounds as if you know what to do. It sounds as if you already know what you're doing. The only suggestion I could give would be to put a fan directly over the VRMs and the back of the socket. You will see a difference.

Would enjoy a sight of the P-states for this chip. CPU-Z about tab, save report txt. (do this at stock though please.)

now thats a bubberts from a 8-900 dollar cpu for sure

yep it is true. I can get 5.050 Ghz on 8 cores, but not stable even with 1.55V. 4.850Ghz is the stable point for mine 8 cores turbo off, on 1.513V. I did get 5.150 Ghz with one core per module at 1.55V, not much use for it, but it was stable like that (other than benchmark with crossfire), HT set for 2600 with 2400 speed ram. The old FX 8350 I have was only good for 4.6Ghz stable on water. it was one of the 1st ones that came in a can instead of a box.

You can hit 4.7ghz stable with a FX-9590 right at first post. It's for the lazy overclocker.

It may be true for some, but not for all. (1429) Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I too had an early 8350 in the can (1236) and got 4822MHz @ 1.514v 24 hr stable but nothing higher that was stable 24 hr. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Anyone who thinks you can just turn these on, dial em up and see 5GHz stable has another thing coming lol.
I wonder how that chip would perform on a Z.

I guess you want a readout under full load?

No it doesn't need to be under load for the P-State read out. What it does need to be is at stock settings in BIOS
