Random nVidia card Uniengine Heaven problems.

Thread Starter
Hello all, I recently came upon a good sale at my local computer store and picked up a handful of open box nVidia graphics cards. However, it seems that half of the ones I've picked up cannot run Uniengine Heaven benchmark on loop without either displaying a black screen or displaying "Oil Rig" across the screen a few dozen times. Would you guys be able to offer some troubleshooting advice for me?

These are the cards that I picked up:

Cannot loop Heaven on:
  • EVGA 660 ti
  • MSI 670
  • Galaxy 680

Can loop Heaven on:
  • MSI 660 ti
  • EVGA 650

The odd thing is that all of these cards can run Furmark for hours on end without any problems. I've already RMA'd the 680, but even after it being repaired I'm still having issues with it. Below are the troubleshooting steps that I've taken:
  • Set bios to default settings
  • Tried both the F4 and F5 bioses for my board
  • Tried the latest nVidia stable and beta drivers
  • Did a clean install of the nVidia drivers with and installed without installing the nVidia HD audio driver.
  • Tried different pci-e slots and pci-e generation settings in the bios.

In addition this information might be helpful:
  • My mobo reads my 12v as 12.096v
  • The cards can handle at least a half hour of EVGA's core burner
  • They cannot handle the 2gb EVGA memory test
  • My machine can run 8 iterations of memtest 86 with no problem

And these are my system specs:
  • Intel 4670k at 4.6ghz and 1.35v
  • Gigabyte Z87X-OC 1150 Motherboard
  • 4 x 4gb of Patriot Ram
  • Corsair AX860 PSU
  • Windows 8 64 bit

Thank you in advance for any troubleshooting tips or suggestions you can provide. I'm probably looking to sell these cards to friend and I want to make sure they work smile.gif.

I've never had good luck over clocking with patriot ram. The oil rig message is extremely odd.

Sorry can't help much.

Try the X01 BIOS.

It seems like the vram on the cards are giving trouble. Unigine heaven maxes out your vram which furmark, msi kombsutor and even 3d mark 11 don't do. Download OCCT and do the gpu memory test for errors. I'm sure your problem lies here.

Go pickup 'a new dawn' developer benchmark off nvidias site and test using that. To my knowledge, heaven only uses around 900-1.1gb of vram. A new dawn benchmark will max out your vram without a doubt.

Like what new benchmark?

I have a 1Gb card so I thought Unigine Heaven maxes out the memory.
