Not sure how to go about cooling my CPU

so, I was going to get an H80, but i'm a bit paranoid about getting a defective unit and getting leaks. otherwise, it seems like the best unit, just really want to be 100% sure i wont ruin my rig with a leaking system.

but, i was looking at the Hyper 212 Evo, and a few others, but they're usually around 159mm tall, and my case has exactly 159.5 mm of clearance. so that's...close.

i was looking at these two now.

Coolermaster V8
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103055

Noctua NHC14
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608020&Tpk=noctua%20c14

both of those are little shorter.

i;me pretty sure the Cooler master will fit but not sure about the Noctua.

this is the interior of my case.

http://i390.photobucket.com/albums/oo341/blake_/2013-07-31203137_zps20335007.jpg

its like this because i messed up and accidentally bought the mATX version and didnt think of exchanging it because at the time, it did everything i needed. and the wire is like that because i was too lazy to reinstall the top fan in the other slot after i put it in and realized it cut off my cables. that will get fixed when i get the new cooler (it has to.).

Thoughts? OR should i just get the 212 evo and hope it fits? Is the H80 good enough QC wise to risk it?

also, does anyone have warranty info on the corsair product? i want to know if my PC is covered if it leaks.

or, anything else? not sure. but this is for overclocking purposes and i want to push my 2600 K to 4.2 minimum and 4.5 if possible.

Do you live somewhere that having to return or exchange the 212 would be that big of a deal for you? I would recommend the 212 over the v8 (I own both) especially with the way your fans in the case are... but it is all if it fits you know.

With the 212 you can make that rear fan an intake fan and have the 212 fan right next to it sucking that fresh air and shoving it right into the heatsink. That is how I have it set up on my wifes rig.

I would try the 212 evo if you can.

You need to clean your cooler! lmaosmiley.gif

1. Agree that the H80 is not the way to go. Not as dependable as air and no better cooling either.

2. Is 159.5mm from top of CPU? CPU is 8mm above surface of motherboard.

3. You could only use bottom fan on NH-C14. Wwith both fans is 160mm and top fan needs 25+mm for airflow. Also downflow coolers are very hard to keep hot exhaust air separated from cool intake air.

What is the distance from middle of cooler to GPU?

its from the top of the CPU i believe. i know a bunch of people have used the 212 + with the case i have, and the 212 evo is only a half a mm taller.

i dont know what the distance is, i'd have to check. it looks like i could fit a 120mm fan right over it with a small bit of breathing room.

but yeah, the space issue is the main reason why i was even looking at the H80 and the like.

I would like a pic of that, im not exactly sure how you have it set up.

But yes, i live in hawaii, and no one stocks CPU coolers. it would be a huge pain to send things bac.

If it's just 60mm you may end up needing to put something between cooler and GPU to make sure it doesn't short out. Flat piece of plastic or even thin cardboard will do.

yeah. i mean, if its a really tight fit, it may just push my to a closed water loop.
If it will fit I would would stay air cooling. With your tight space CLC hoses would be hard to manage too.

Water cooling is very good, but for the most part the CLC's are not. Pumps in custom loops are many amp.. CLC pumps are a few watt... so are working super hard to move a faction of the coolant a custom loop moves. Add the fact that custom loop radiators are mostly copper and brass while CLC radiators are aluminum and plastic.

To the best of my knowledge there are only three companies making CLC systems; Swiftech, CoolIT and Asetek. They are than rebranded as as Corsair, Antek, NZXT, etc.

Asetek sued CoolIT last year for alleged patten infringement and is now suing Cooler Master and Swiftech. As a result Swiftech has now pulled the H220 off the market. Asetek's claim is they patented the "sealed-unit cooling" system concept which means nobody else can make and sell one.

Based on that kind of monopoly attitude by Asetek I would not buy anything they make.

Clean cool air instead of any air that is warmed up from being in the case or coming off the video card or hard drives.

I usually water cool with custom loops but this is my wife's rig. You won't get significantly better cooling from an AIO but it will cost you more. It isn't the pump that is the problem either it is the cheap radiator and depending on the design the poorly designed cold plate.
