[Roberts Space Industries] $20 Million! - Page 11

Hornet might be the best all-purpose kill ship, but doesn't look like it's got any room for cargo and cleanup. The Avenger may also end up being an ace in the hole depending on how its main gun hardpoint pans out in actual use (I'm still thinking sniper or ECM specialties).

The 300 series is fairly generic. The 315 will be a better-than-starter explorer, the 325 a better-than-starter fighter, etc. Good but not the best for their intended roles and versatile enough to shoehorn into other tasks depending on flight characteristics. The 350 is the only very specialized one (highest thruster to weight ratio of any ship currently shown / statted out).

It's the difference between roles. The 325a is for interdiction, the Hornet is for interception.

Interceptors are long-ranged fighters. The F14, for example, is an interceptor. The F18 will run circles around it, but is much shorter ranged.

I have a saitek x52 controller with throttle, but I plan on just using my xbox 360 wired controller just to save space around my desk biggrin.gif

The only short ranged fighters in the game are the snub fighters like the P52 launched from a Constellation.

A 325a is going to be more suited to hit and run or strafing styles, the Hornet is better for actual dogfighting. At least with the default loadouts.

The Avenger's 3x class 1's with 2x class 3's isn't much different from the 325a's 2x class 1, 1x class 2, 2x class 3 setup, but the 325a will be much faster.

If that's what happens, that's what happens. But personally I've got both a Constellation and a 325a and student loans are the only reason I don't have a Starfarer and Scythe as well.

I was thinking of using my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, cheap and good joystick! Tried the Saitek ones in the store today, didn't really like the feel of it, although it had a better throttle placement than the Logitech. Think it was the Cyborg FLY 5 I tried.

The 325a has more maneuvering thrusters for lower weight, so it should be more agile. The Hornet will be much faster and hence I predict not as great in dog fighting up close. Remember inertia is affected by mass, the bigger you are the harder it will be for you to run and head in another direction; compounded by the thrusters of course. Having played KSP (remember Roberts said flight would be based on real phisics), thruster positioning does a great deal more in terms of handling than power alone. You could have 4 properly positioned thrusters vs 8 and still have better maneuverability in space. More isn't always better (Again, based on my rocket science and space flight knowledge from KSP). And yes, I know I just contradicted myself...

Stats:
325a
Focus Interdiction (meaning you keep someone put)
Mass (empty) 20 t
Main Thrusters [?] Hammer Propulsion HE 5.3 (TR3)
Maneuvering Thrusters [?] 12× TR1

Hornet
Primary Focus Dogfighting
Secondary Focus Interception (meaning you get somewhere fast to start a fight)
Mass (empty) 22 t
Main Thrusters [?] 1× TR4
Maneuvering Thrusters [?] 8× TR2

So with inertia, and engines in consideration.

325a = Agile/weaker but slower than a Hornet's top speed
Hornet = Clumsier/resilient Faster top speed and better damage output

As far as dog fighting goes, I'd give the one up to a good pilot and his 325a over a good pilot and his Hornet. On avg. a hornet will be able to escape a 325a and have more fire power to kill it but only if the 325a pilot is avg in skills.

My 2 cents in the matter.

As for equipment... hehehehe... I just bought a Playseat Elite Office chair to go with my Saitek X65F Pro (traded it for my X52pro) and just adore the crap out of it. Just waiting on the Oculus Rift HD and I am set to forget about reality.

You might be correct on that mate, but I guess we will have to wait and see how it is ingame.

X52 Pro is damn nice, although I don't know if I want to spend so much money on a joystick, or all the space it would take on my desk which would be my main concern :/
I want Oculus Rift my self, but at the same time I am not sure I want to give up my 110hz 2560x1400 either... Decisions decisions...

PS, responded to your PM wink.gif

You're ignoring that the hornet is 10% heavier than the 325a. You've got all the stats backwards lol. Read the primary focus of the Hornet... The hornet is dedicated to combat. The 325a is a jack of all trades ship outfitted for combat. Hornet will take it 9/10 times.
