[Roberts Space Industries] $20 Million! - Page 34

Is it just me or does anyone have their concerns about a developer that finishes the game Store before even finishing the game's alpha.. I know they need funding, but.. still. It turned me off enough not to pledge and wait to see how the game is when finished.

let me explain. chris roberts is a multimilionaire himself. he sold origin to ea in 90s and another company which produced freelancer to ms for 30m. he could finance the entire game himself, tough i guess his wife would divorce him smile.gif then he spent being director of wing commander movie and producer on films like lord of war with nicolas cage. hence, he is set for life and has absolutely no reason to con anyone to anything.

he pitched the idea to private investors as he didnot liked existing game publishers and used kickstarter to raise 500k to showcase, that there is interest in this genre. then he found out, that he needs no investors. now the game is fully funded. 23m will be hit in next 1-3 days (we had special sale with 500k one day and 400k yesterday), and whatever the game will raise in sale will be saved to create new content and run servers for 10+ years. afterwards there will be singleplayer mission packs like it was in case of privateer game.

long story short, star citizen is happening and its no scam.

The pledge store is mostly so people can choose what they want as a reward for helping to fund the game. When the game is launched, there will be nothing available for real money and no real-money store except to buy in-game currency with a daily limit and only allowed if the player's balance is less than a certain amount.
