I've shut down my rigs, including the Universe servers. Need time to experiment and reconfigure my rigs. I've GOT to cut this power bill. Almost $400 this month! mad.gif

Yikes, I just don't look at mine. wink.gif

Put those GPUs into the servers and you can cut down on some overhead.

Once i put in a window fan constantly venting out the room with the PCs is much cooler and less heat is vented up into the rest of the house. The temps didn't really drop until I moved the PCs next to the window and the heat gets pulled right out.

That's part of my thought process. I've got a spare room I need to get set up for my rigs. And I need to do some consolidation. Two 980's per server will eliminate five rigs. And I've built a stand so I can point their butts out the window. I'm also devising a plan to keep the 980's water cooled. Sheet metal work is my specialty. tongue.gif

Wow 5 rigs. With the power saved from that you can run more GPUs!! biggrin.gif Haha

I still need to funnel more of the air directly to the window fan. The 2P needs a bitcoin or spotswood bench so it can hold a GPU,

Build one out of an old case. That's what I did.

Then you know if you create a hood to direct the pull of the fan directly behind the rigs then you will get most of the heat out the window.....

It was what I did for two years when I finally got to six machines. Used with a 750 cfm blower pulling the heat directly from behind the boxen, helps out a lot.

Built mine out of cardboard and was fairly unobtrusive .

But then I put a 14k BTU AC in the window which takes my overhead on power so I can't add any more machines right now......

My bill? about 550/month after deducting the normal house usage.

I figured you have a high bill. With all the points you put out. tongue.gif
My problem is simply too many single-card rigs. I have 10 and only two are running dual cards. One more is capable. So I need to put two cards in each server and add a second to the dual slot desktop. Then I can arrange them all in the spare room with the window AC I already have. And the servers pull a ton of air out the back, so if I set things up right I think I can suck the heat that's generated from the remaining seven cards out with them. The six in the servers will be exhausted out the window. May make them run a little hotter, but that's my plan.

The Intel 2P board only accepts a shorty 16x card and the rest are 8x so I have to use the PCI-E cables which pushes the cards up. A normal case would need to be modified a bit more.

Don't you have some low CPU core count machines running those GPUs so there's not much of a CPU thread loss if the GPUs were moved? I mean not much compared to 200 threads...

A little preplanning is always better, particularly when it comes to airflow. Set up like that with the cards under water, it should stay a lot cooler than your currently experiencing.....

The servers should easily handle the load of two cards each like they weren't even there, four cards would be best. then you would be down to four machines. That would take a huge chunk of the power bill away, and make for more efficient heat evacuation.

Sometimes I wish I had stuck with the ideal of each of these being DP's but sometimes I'm glad they aren't, the heat would have killed me...
All of mine are running on AMD visheras. Ancient hardware but rock solid stable... the MB's are MSI 990 FX GD 80's, all are good for three cards if under water and a 1.5k power supply, that is my only open upgrade space and the AC takes that out.

We gained 20 mil+ on GC today, your contribution and finally getting mine re-stable again after the pentathlon.

WE need you..... thumb.gif

Man, all this talk of power bills..... And I pay $75 CAD a month all in. Of course, that will be closer to $200 once we get a house because I'll have a lot more hardware plus air conditioning. Sooo can't wait for that (and a dishwasher)
