Suggest a NAS box for 8 hard drives?

Thread Starter
I got a stack of 8 hard drives, all 80GB SATA just sitting around gathering dust. Is there a NAS box (or a DIY solution using Linux OS) that lets me combine 8 as a single RAID0 drive for network use? Both of the computers in use in my sig uses too much power to leave it 24/7 and my laptops don't have available PCIe or PC card slot to hook up 8 drives.

Not worth doing IMO. you need a mobo with support for 8 sata ports (ideally from a single controller) and then you get around 500GB-640GB Usable storage, less reliable because they are older, less power efficient because of the number of drives. Even if you use linux as the OS its far cheaper to get a simple 2 bay NAS and stick a couple of 1-3TB Drives in it.

RAID 0 with 8 drives is asking for trouble since raid 0 isnt raid at all. If any one of the drives fails you loose the whole array. Given the 8\age and quantity of drives Id say that was just about a dead certainty in the near future.

Something like this - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822165223 would be far better and cheaper and more power efficient.
