1-way folder synchronization

Thread Starter
Hello all,

I have a folder on my laptop that I will put a few files in each day. I have an Ubuntu 13.04 desktop (for now) VM setup to back these files up. right now I have a mapped drive.

My current back up procedure, cut files from my laptop and paste them to my mapped drive where they will live. As the number of files grows, this is becoming more difficult since the files names can be very similar.

Ideally, I want to be able to put files into a folder on my laptop and automatically at some point in time have them 1.) sent to my mapped drive on the server and 2.) be deleted from my laptop.

I'm not sure how this can be done, any suggestions?

i have used mirrorfolder (windows) in the past.

it can do scheduled syncs, manually forced or even sync upon login and such. i found it worked well, not sure if your laptop is windows or ubuntu as well

Ah, windows 7 home edition on my laptop. If I use a program like that, and then delete files from one folder, would it resync them in both directions?

it can resync that way or you can have it so if you deleted item on laptop it stays on your server

I like freefilesync myself. I use the mirror option to mirror my backup directories over to my server every night. It updates only changed data so it is usually pretty quick when run nightly.
