i have a problem with my ssd...

Thread Starter
i have a samsung 840 and the software for it updated along with the firmware. the new software tells me my system doesnt support sata 3.

i had a feeling the ssd wasnt as fast as it should. my motherboard is an asus m4a88td which has 6gbps sata3 and i swapped the cables to make sure it was a sata 3 cable.

can anyone help me figure out why im not getting full performance?

do you have ahci or ide or raid set in your bios?
did you have ahci set when you installed your operating system?

Does the board have multiple controllers? You may have the thing plugged into the wrong controller/sata plug set.

I thought i did have ahci but i had to change that back again cos the software said it was ide

As for the controller i have no idea what you mean, it plugs into the mobo and setup correctly in bios and it works. However in bios the ide/ahci is set port ports 1 to 4 and 5 to 6, is that it?

Some boards have multiple SATA controllers, using Marvell or ASMedia chips. AMD does not usually use those. Your board has a VIA PATA controller, but I doubt highly your SSD is connected to it.

Actually, the Magician 4.x software is not compatible with AMD systems, according to the Magician documentation. Or at least not guaranteed to work 100% correctly with it. Which may be why it sees your SATA interface as SATA II, it might be seeing the VIA PATA controller.
