Unlocked Phenom II 550 BE doesnt show temps

Thread Starter
I am a beginner on unlocking. I went to test cores in prime and usually use coretemp to monitor temps...is there another program that is better that will show temps? Also, what temp should I watch out for? I plan to get a good after market cooler next month...any suggestions on an inexpensive am3 cooler?

hello,
read in forum that the disabled core does not have a temperature sensor, if you can read the other temps go by that instead.
I use cpu-z hwmonitor for my temps, http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
the cooler master hyper 212 evo is popular, I go for a nice scythe cooler myself, they very nice.

HHHMMMM...Thats going to be a hard one for watching other temps. I have always used coretemp to auto shutdown when got too hot. I will look into the suggested coolers. Will the stock cooler be ok till I upgrade or should I go back to dual core till I get one? Also I was going to put my geforce gtx 260 in this but will it overheat with stock cooler? Also whats cputin? I found that on cpuid monitor.

when you unlock an Athlon II, it disables the temp sensors for each core. I lost the ability to watch each core when i unlocked my Athlon II X3. Still, usually one of the motherboard temps watch the overall package temp, which will give you an idea of temperatures. A way to check this would be to lock the cores again, run a prime95 test, and see which motherboard temp follows the core temps. once you know which one it is, you can keep an eye on this temp once the chip is unlocked again.
