PSU calculation

Thread Starter
so im building my first computer and im on the part where i find the correct wattage that i need but all of the PSU calculators give me extremely sporadic answers between 200w-800w and im wondering if anyone has an unbias site they can share that would be great, or if someone could help me with an accurate measurement of my computer, parts below

Processor: AMD FX-8320 Vishera 3.5GHz (4.0GHz Turbo)

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+

RAM Modules: Mushkin Enhanced Ridgeback 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000

Graphics Card: Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB

Hard Drive: Western Digital WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"

DVD Drive: LITE-ON Black SATA DVD-ROM Drive Model iHDS118-04

USB Devices; regular wireless mouse, BUFFALO AirStation HighPower N150 Wireless USB Adapter

Case: Thermaltake V3 Black AMD Edition

im trying to keep my PSU budget low, but i dont want one that will crap out and melt my mobo/processor

A quality 550W unit and you are golden. You can also get a 650W unit if you want to have enough power for going crossfire or SLI in the future (pretty much all dual GPU configurations are possible with 650W). Also quality 650W units aren't usually that much more expensive then 550W units.

But for the hardware you have now 550W is good. Just make sure to get a quality unit.

What's your budget? Something like $60-80 should get you what you need.

Check out thislist of PSU's from OCN. All you need is 550W at the most, but try and get a Gold rated one with a high efficiancy. If you can get the Rosewill Capstone then that is what I would recommend. It is one of the best bang for your buck PSU's out there right now.
