Mixing Aluminum and Copper in a Waterloop

Thread Starter
Both blocks have been throughly cleaned. They have been soaked in vineager, toothpasted brushed, and acetone cleaned multiple times. One waterblock was used for a few years in a copper only loop. The other block was used with aluminum for a few years. Can you guess which is which?

Ditto. Copper only on the right, and those channels look nearly new.

I would guess the one on the right is the mix - but only because you asked if we could tell. That usually means the answer is counter-intuitive

LOL, the left was definitely in an aluminum loop. I cannot make the block shiny anymore and it feels rough. The baseplate of the two blocks are in great shape though. Lesson learned again.... don't mix copper with aluminum in a waterloop!

I think the right one was used with aluminum...

Haha, now I feel pretty speshul! Having seen your answer...lol

I said the right one because in terms of galvanic corrosion, I would have thought the copper would have been sacrified TO the aluminum, hence the "cleaner" look on the right.
