Gigabyte Z87X-D3H problem

Hi there , a friend has a problem with his Gigabyte Z87X-D3H, we can not get it to boot from a optical drive. The drive shows up in bios
and is selected as first boot device, but the drive does not even spin up. We have tried a working optical drive from another pc, changing the
sata cable, updating bios to f6, clearing cmos, different sata ports. Have also reseated cpu and checked all connections. Really stumped on what else it could be, bios options seem to be correct and wondering if he got a bad motherboard.

does the drive work if you hook it up in a different computer? if it does work, its probably something up with the motherboard, but again i would try hookup a different drive and see if it works. and again, getting that specific drive that you mentioned didnt work and trying it out in another system? what you are trying to find out is where the problem is located, might be with the drive and might be with the mobo's sata connectors. hope that helps. good luck finding your issue.

PS. try get the bios updated somehow, you can use a laptop / another computer if that helps to get the latest bios downloaded.

Have tried 2 optical drives , one is new and one from another pc that works, also have flashed to the latest bios.
Thinking this is a motherboard issue.

Hey if you need it to install Windows, you can use a flash drive instead. When you'll have Windows installed, check again whether the drive works.

There are knows issues with Z87 not liking some SATA 2 HDDs. Maybe it also has issues with DVD drives and etc.
