Looking for a new screen

Thread Starter
I recently went from an old 22" ASUS to a u2312HM IPS, and I just can't stand what it does to dark games and scenes (glare in corners), so I'm probably gonna get a refund. So i'm looking for a replacement screen now, and mostly what I can come up with is

-Good image quality/color, if the colors are **** then the games/movies pretty **** too
-I don't care about lightboost, I've heard it worsens image quality in a trade for smoothness or something, which is really not worth it for me. and I also don't care about 120hz if its going to do the same, because I'd rather play my games at highest settings with 60FPS and great picture than everything at low with wacked out colors but 120hz Lightboosted
-$260 would probably be a good cutoff point monetarily wise, preferably something around 200 though
-no backlight bleed, so no ips. better viewing angles are nice, but not at the expense of all my horror and stealth games
-low input lag and fast response times, I like fast twitch FPS games
-23" screen with 1920x1080 resolution. i like the widescreen look/format, plus 23" is the sweet spot for that res I think. if i'm totally wrong and a bumbling cretin with toadstools growing from the fungi leeching off the parasites in my central cortex, then tell me all about how 1920x1080 is so much better on a 24" screen

other thoughts: i've heard VA panels have really good blacks and are kind of a good balance between TN and IPS, but most have terrible gaming performance and input lag. is this true?

I have a dell 24 inch monitor and according to the dell websites it is a va panel. It does have the deepest blacks I have ever seen on a monitor.I play ps3 games as well as action games on my rig(saints row series) and have never noticed any lag.

Also, what drew me to it was 1. no thick bezel and 2. very vivid colors. The only drawback to it is it's very glossy.

You're a hard man to bargain with, Kinetix.

You're gunna have to make some sacrifices...

TNl:
- low response time
- bad viewing angles
- subpar colors
- no IPS glow / minimal to no lightbleed

IPS:
- great colors
- great viewing angles
- higher response time
- more bleed than TN

I'm at a loss of what to recommend to you since there is no monitor that has every benefit of both TN & IPS with none of the cons...

Well, lightbleed is definitely a deal breaker for me, so I'm sacrificing the IPS section until they, er, evolve in tech. Or devolve in price, if the tech already exists.

What did you expect from IPS? The blacks are darker and more realistic and the viewing angle is superior. I can't go back to TN screens after using an IPS, the colors are just so perfect for doing other things besides gaming. Your best bet is to find a P-MVA/S-PVA screen if they even exist still, I used to have a Dell S-PVA it was super nice but I sold it redface.gif it was the best balance between gaming and having good colors. I'm not quite sure if they even sell those anymore with 30" TN's and cheaper e-IPS screens. You could try to find a 2nd hand NEC 2490WUXi, I have zero backlight bleed on mine. I bought mine a while ago, it was really expensive but was well worth it in the end. I will not change monitors until this monitor is dead or they come out with really godly OLED screens which is not anytime soon. Last I checked Sony's 7" OLED screen was like $5,000 LOL!

Maybe this one?

http://www.benq.com/product/monitor/bl2411pt/

Looked some test at prad.de and its an excellent monitor with very very low input lag and resonable response time even for hardcore gamers they say.
