Case has no cable management. What are my options?

G'day,

I understand that Cable management is a big part of making your PC run cold and has the added advantage of looking cool. I'm trading my laptop for the PC, it's an Antec 300 Case from 2010/2011. For your interest the computer has an i5 650 and is an Micro ATX.

Sadly the Antec 300 doesn't have any cable management, at least from what I can see. I know that when the PC was bought it was built by a professional shop and hasn't been changed since, the cable management that the shop had done is horrible and It can't even fit a graphic's card in there due to the cables.

First I though of drilling holes and cutting to manage to deal with it, but I don't think there's any room along side with the back panel to hide the cables. So I'm very lost. I know I'm already going to have to remove the HDD bay's to fit in a graphic's card; that's the easy part.

Sadly I don't have any photo's of the actual computer itself, but here's a link to the Antec 300 case.

Thanks for reading, looking for any tips.

EDIT: Looks like it has some cable management, which you can see in the link. But it's just 3 clips to hold cables in near the front.

I had that case a few years ago.. Cut some holes in the back if it and was able to run cables behind the mobo tray. So, it's possible but it's definitely a tight fit.

Just type Antec 300 mods in the search field of the OCN forum.

My case, an Antec Two Hundred V2, is very similar to the Three Hundred on the inside except my case has a large opening behind the MOBO and one at the bottom for the PSU cables. I cut four round cable management holes just under the MOBO and put cable management grommets in them and a Corsair case grommet in the existing big hole for the PSU cables. It is tight between the MOBO plate and the right side panel but I don't have to force the panel to get it on, even with a layer of acoustic foam on the panel. You can find the grommets at places like Performance PCs or Frozen CPU.

I LOVED the A300s back in the day. I agree with the above statement, cut a hole in the 5.25" bays and one at the PSU then zip-tie wires accordingly. smile.gif

Edit: see the first page of posts on my old build thread here for some pics of where to cut the holes: http://www.overclock.net/t/443361/chlokwork-orange-antec-300-mod-comp-09-1st-place/0_20

Back in the day I did some pretty good cable management in cases like this. You just have to get creative. Run the 24-pin right along the edge of the mobo. I've snaked wires up over the top of the top mounted power supply, and out down the corners of the case. I've reverse mounted hard drives and run the cables behind the drive bays. A couple small drill holes at the bottom of the mobo tray will allow you to run the front panel connectors almost completely out of sight. Extra wire can be bundled up and hidden either on top of the PSU or behind the drive bays, or sometimes in an unused 5 1/4 bay.

I did a buddy's rig wiring, and his Dad came in to look at it and was asking when we'd be done wiring it up. All he saw was a little piece of the 24-pin and a couple SATA cables running toward the bays. We then punched the power button, much to his astonishment.

I always have a large supply of zip ties and zip tie adhesive pads. With those, you can work some small miracles in any case.
