hello, i'm a noob trying to overclock

Thread Starter
so, as you can see..my system isn't great...and i got a noname stick......

recently, i've taken interest in overclocking..and so, i research some things..and start my trials..

i have some questions or probably one specific question and i apologize if it is frustrating to read such things...

so, i realize that i get reboots after setting my fsb to something around 215...and won't boot windows..and i find that basically 210 is the max (stable) with the ram at 200..

so..after some epiphanies...(i didn't know what was causing the instability, cause i'm a noob...) so, trial and error, i lowered the ram to 166 and increased the fsb to around 240 (not that stable, from testing) however, it was still running...so, if i raised the fsb by 40, and the ram was at 166..shouldn't the total be around 206..but it was around 188..probably cause the stick is bad?...

anyways.. i'm wondering how people are getting memory speeds of around 270 ..is it cause it's dual channel..cause i'm on single...or is it just cause my stick is bad/..

oh and increasing the voltage didn't work

so, any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks

It's not a bad stick...if you raise your FSB by 40 then it shows as 20 on your ram...DDR= double data rate...There are many factors that could cause your symptoms...Best bet is to follow this guide to find the maximum on your cpu and ram....
