MAINGEAR Pulse 14 Vs Digital Storm Veloce

Thread Starter
Hi I'm looking into getting a new portable gaming laptop and have been looking at the Maingear Pulse 14 and the Digital Storm Veloce.
I'm wondering what you guys think would be the better choice here, both are around 1,300 bucks.
Also if you have any other suggestions that would be awesome!
My only criteria is 13 to 14 inch screen and light at around 1,300 bucks.

Just a suggestion, but check out the Sager NP7330 (Clevo W230ST) from Xotic PC:

The maingear looks like an MSI 14" GE40-20C. the Digital Storm Veloce appears to be the Clevo W230ST. When I have the choice, I would go with the Clevo. I'd say the only other 14" worth looking at would be an alienware m14, but i think you will get better bang for buck out of the clevo. Asus also makes a G46 but im not as big of a fan as I used to be.

As recommended before me, the XoticPC notebook is the same as the Veloce, and may be cheaper? I have no experience with digital storm, nor maingear. I have purchased from XoticPC before and liked the experience.

I too would recommend going with xoticpc.com

A configuration that costs me 1500 on digital storm veloce is costing 1330 on xoticpc. I recently ordered the clevo w230st (same as veloce) and it only took 3 days to complete build (credit card took 2 days to process) and shipping is going to take 4 business days for me (shipping from CA), which totals to 9 business day with ground shipping and no rush build processing, which is simply amazing.

I would highly recommend avoiding the MSI laptop. It heats up a LOT from the reviews I read (and I did a TON of research on this) and the clevo has amazing cooling tongue.gif

Here are some awesome threads full of info on how the improve the stock clevo even more:

I would also stay away from maingear because many of the reviews I read on resellerratings.com gave 5 stars to Maingear because of customer support; many had shipping issues and issues with receiving damaged products.

I would also like to add that there are multiple ways to improve performance/heat on the clevo. I have attached a file that gives some ways to improve the performance. However, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you go through the links and read them; they will give a LOT of great information.

Here is the attached file: modded bios installation.docx 62k .docx file

definitely the Clevo W230ST from XoticPC (though all the W230STs are quite the same): review

It is a really good one. A disadvantage will be the low battery performance - but some bios update or driver updates from Nvidia might get it fixed
Compared to the MSI GE40, the screen is superior
