HD7950 or GTX760

Thread Starter
Amazon are refunding my MSI HD7950 TwinFrzr because of power circuitry issues. I'll have nigh on £250 to spend... so which would you choose... HD7950 or GTX760?

At stock GTX 760 is faster. But after OC the HD 7950 is faster.
It depends if you want to OC or not.

Crysis 2

HD 7950 @ 1200/6720
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

GTX 670 @ 1327/7452
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

HD 7950 won in the first two benchs. lost only in the third bench in a game that is known to run better on Nvidia hardware.
I expect GTX 760 max oc to be slower than GTX 670 max oc due to it has less shaders/ TMUs.
At 1050 MHz, HD7950 will be on-par or slightly faster than a GTX 680.

both will be very close that you probably wont be able to tell a difference in horsepower
so 3GB on 384-bit bandwidth VRAM should seal the deal.

I don't know why your score is that high. but the GPU Usage was at 99% all the time during the test for me.
Make sure you didn't turn Tessellation off completely in the driver, also make sure you have all the patches installed. IMO your score doesn't make sense to me, unless your i7 2700K @ 4.5 GHz gave a magical boost to the 7950.
However the point of my previous post is that when both cards are running at the same system, HD 7950 OC will beat GTX 760 OC wink.gif .

i sold that 7950 awhile back. i don't use tweaks. i don't even use CCC except if it is needed to adjust overscan. it is what it is/was. the i7 may be the difference.

edit: according to properties, that run was done back in February, so it is after that magical 12.11 driver. i can run one using my 7970 when i come back.

edit: here is my 7970 stock and the i7 at same oc of 4.5 . . .

thanks to you, i found out 13.8 does not work for this game. had to revert back to previous driver. oh well, single gpu anyway.

OP go with HD 7950. faster and more VRAM. couple of options - Gigabyte HD 7950 with windforce3x cooler. 1 ghz stock clocks , locked voltage and 3 yr warranty. Sapphire HD 7950 with 925 mhz, unlocked voltage and 2 yr warranty. normally 1100 - 1150 mhz is easily achievable on the HD 7950 boost cards.

Gigabyte HD 7950
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-7950-Radeon-Graphics-Card/dp/B0071LP5ME/

Sapphire HD 7950 Flex. (11196-17-40G) . ref HD 7950 PCB. has VRM temp sensors.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-Graphics-Express-Display-Playback/dp/B0091MIFXC/

Sapphire HD 7950 (11196-19-20G) . custom PCB. no VRM temp sensors.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-Graphics-Express-Display-Technology/dp/B00BBKO65S/
http://www.overclock.net/t/1367119/sapphire-100352-3l-hd7950-stripped-for-your-viewing-pleasure

HD 7950(1150 mhz) beats GTX 760(1280 mhz).

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/07/02/msi_n760_tf_2gd5oc_gtx_760_overclocking_review/5

even in games like Metro Last Light (Nvidia TWIMTBP) GTX 760(1280 mhz) barely matches HD 7950(1150 mhz). but in games like Tombraider, Hitman Absolution the HD 7950 perf is > 25% faster .

If they are the same price get the 7950, but if the 760 is cheaper get the 760 imo. The only reason I got my gtx 760 is because it was $30 cheaper then the cheapest 7950 I could find and because I like SLI more the CF.
