Will my old power supply work for my new build?

Hello!

First off it has been about 5 years since I have actively roamed these forums on a day to day basis, that was the last time I built myself a gaming computer. I plan on building myself a new gaming computer here in the next few weeks so I will be on here a lot more!

Here is what I plan on buying:

GTX 780
ASUS ROG MOBO (haven't decided which one yet)
CASE ( TBD)
Intel Haswell 4770k (going to overclock it )
Water cooler for CPU ( TBD)

Here is what I plan on carrying over from my current rig:

Samsung SSD 830 series 128GB SATA III MLC
Corsair TX Series CMPSU-650TX ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready 80 Bronze cert (at least this is what it says in my newegg purchase history - i hope this information is correct )
Samsung 8GB (2x4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600 (PC3 12800) Model MV-3V4G3D/US

MY QUESTION will my PSU listed above (it was purchased in 2009 ) be enough to power my new system? and also if I overclock it? and does it have enough power on the 12v rail?

I did a search around and it seems the answer is yes but I just wanted to make sure with all of you guys. Thanks for your help! thumb.gif

650w should be plenty for a single gpu and other parts you have listed.

If you already have then there's no need to go out and spend more money.

okay thanks for the reply, do you know if the amps on the 12v rail would be high enough? that's the only thing i'm worried about.

It does not really mater that much how old the PSU is. Even the older v1 TX PSU's where great units. That 650W has more then enough juice to run your hardware. Hell you could go GTX 780 SLI provided you don't go completely insane with the voltages.

Thank you for your input!

so my power supply should have a minimum of 42 amps on the +12 volt rail, correct? sorry but you didn't really specify and I just want to make sure before I spend $700 on a card. biggrin.gif that's what the GTX780 says is the min requirement.

and you are saying even if I overclock the CPU to 4.5ghz I will be okay?

you could have opened up your case and looked, but here is a pic of your PSU

notice under the +12v it says max current is 52A that's 52 amps...

so YES it will work biggrin.gif

The TX 650 V1 has a 52 amp +12v rail. With the hardware you have you won't run out of power no mater what you do (short of LN2 cooling wink.gif )

You know that things like rail amperage are written on the PSU right? And often also in the manual.
