120hz CRT problem

Thread Starter
I got a samsung 997mb monitor earlier today and I know that the refresh rate will go to 120+ hz on lower resolutions (I tested on a friend's macbook before I bought it). Now that I have it at home and plugged into my sig rig it won't let me change it to anything above 85hz regardless of resolution. I've tried updating drivers and that didn't work, so then I thought it was because the adapter wasn't a dual link dvi after googling around a bit, but after unplugging it to check it seems like it is.

Any ideas on why this thing won't let me put it above 85

What resolution are you trying to run it at? The 997MB won't go higher than 85 Hz refresh rate at any "usable" resolution. I think you'd have to knock it down to 640x480 to get 120 Hz. Probably do 100 Hz at 800x600, and 85 Hz at 1024x768 and 70 Hz at 1280x1024.

Could also be a RAMDAC limitation of your video card. What card are you attaching the monitor to?

it can go 120+ at 800x600 (I'm only using it for fps so that's not really an issue)

I ended up getting it to do what I wanted by just forcing a custom resolution in the nvidia control panel
